Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Fans can expect finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
